Sylvan Thomas Newick 1895-1986

Sylvan Thomas NEWICK is my great grandfather. He was born in Mayfield, Sussex on 27 January 18951. His parents are Henry NEWICK and Emily DUPLOCK. His name has been spelt several ways over the records: Silvan, Silven, Sylven and Sylvan. I have decided to use Sylvan, which was the spelling that the family have always known him by.

Sylvan Thomas NEWICK was a Lance Corporal in the Royal Engineers during WWI. The family story is that during his service in France, he got trench-foot and lost his big toe.
