Patrick Joseph Begadon 1882-1954
Patrick Joseph BEGADON is my 2nd great grandfather. He was born about 1882 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA (but no records have been found to confirm this). His parents John V BEGADON & Catherine McEvoy were irish, and Patrick Joseph BEGADON moved to Ireland before the age of 4 (estimated based on the fact that his younger brother William BEGADON was born in Queen’s County, Ireland in about 1886).

Mr. P.J. BEGADON, for some years past representative in Portarlington district of the “King’s County Independent” has joined the R.A.M.C {Royal Army Medical Corps} and left Portarlington this week to take up duty.

Death
Mr. Patrick J. BEGADON (72), whose death has occurred at 20 Lady Lane, Waterford, was a well-known journalist. Born in the U.S.A., he was educated in Athlone and Dumfries, Scotland, and started reporting on the Westmeath Independent. He was in the Royal Army Medical Corps during the first World War, and was connected with the British General Staff, acting as official Army stenographer at tribunals in France. Thirty-four years ago he became senior reporter on the Waterford Star and gave valuable service in that capacity and as correspondent of newspapers at home and across the Channel. He retired some years ago, but maintained his association with various publications. An official of the local branch of the National Union of Journalists, he was for 25 years the Waterford area correspondent of the Irish Times. Pre-deceased by his wife many years ago, he is survived by his sister Miss Lizzie BEGADON; his son Mr. Jack BEGADON and five daughters.
