Mary Ann GALLEHAWK is Ben’s 2nd great grandmother. She was born in Deptford, Kent in 1856. Her parents are Charles GALLEHAWK and Sarah LUCKHURST. It was mentioned on Mary Ann’s marriage record to John SEELY in 1880 that her father Charles GALLEHAWK was a corn chandler (corn dealer).

In 1881 John Herbert SEELY & Mary Ann GALLEHAWK (SEELY) were living at 31 North Terrace, Guisborough⁴. They didn’t have any children yet, their first child John Herbert SEELY was born in Guisborough, Yorkshire in late 1881⁵. It seems odd that a family from Kent would have a child born in Yorkshire, but this is confirmed in later censuses.

In 1911 Mary Ann GALLEHAWK (SEELY) was living at 6 High Street, Plumstead, Kent⁷. She had her son John Herbert SEELY living with her. She had said on the census that she had 4 children in her marriage, all of whom were still living, but it had been crossed through. She wasn’t supposed to fill that section out because she wasn’t married at the time the census was taken (she was a widow), but the information is still helpful in knowing that she had 4 children in her marriage to John Herbert SEELY (Snr.)

Death

Mary Ann GALLEHAWK (SEELY) died on 28 November 1930 at Croydon, Surrey at the age of 74. She was buried at Plumstead Cemetery, Greenwich, Kent on 04 December 1930⁸, in a grave that she shares with her parents Charles and Sarah GALLEHAWK.
