Father {John LINLEY}, a man of all trades so it seems as I remember cows, horses, pigs and chickens etc. Haymaking, waggonettes, so many memories of long ago, then came the motor after World War One. Buses taking over the horses ‘though still keeping chickens and ducks etc. They were good days for the motor car at that time. One could travel and enjoy the beauty of nature, the pace was slower.
Mechanical things don’t have the same appeal as living things, once I would watch the horses being groomed, clipping and harness shining all very interesting, but cars and coaches, how cold and uninteresting, oily rags and bits of steel. Not a pretty sight to me anyway.
I was allowed to clean the brass on the windscreen. About all that I was capable of anyway.
