When this census was taken, the couple had been married for 53 years (Charles died 2 years later, taking their marriage to 55 years). The couple weren’t living at 45 Church Road, Homerton, as they had been for the previous 3 censuses but the property stayed in the family as it was mentioned on Charles James GREAVES’ death certificate, and the death certificate of his son Henry GREAVES in 192412.

Charles and Jane wrote that they had 10 children during their marriage. These children were: Charles James, William C, Elizabeth Louisa, Wallace Campbell, Alfred Robert, James Clyde, Archibald Campbell, Henry, Margaret Amelia, and Donald Major GREAVES.

Be it known that Jane Emma Thrail GREAVES of 115 Woodlands Avenue Wanstead in the County of Essex Widow died there on the 3rd day of May 1935. 

And be it further known the at the date hereunder written the last Will and Testament (a copy whereof is hereunto annexed) of the said deceased was proved and registered in the Principal Probate Registry of His Majesty’s High Court of Justice and that Administration of all the Estate which by law devolves to and vests in the personal representative of the said deceased was granted by the aforesaid court to Edward Charles HARDY of 18 Colsworth Road Leytonstone in the said county Mercantile Clark grandson of the deceased the sole executor named in the said will… Dated the 5th day of July 1935.

This is the last will and testament of me Jane Emma Thrail GREAVES of 115 Woodlands Avenue Wanstead in the county of Essex.

Made this eleventh day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and thirty four.

I hereby revoke all wills made by me at any time herefore I appoint Edward Charles HARDY of 18 Colworth Rd Leyton alone to be my executor and direct that all my debts and funeral expenses shall be paid as soon as conveniently may be after my decease.

I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Louisa HARDY absolutely Numbers 20 and 22 Clyde Terrace Church Rd Homerton and to my granddaughter Mollie Greaves WALSTON absolutely my freehold house and adjoining property 45 and 43 Church Road Homerton as an act of justice, sure in so doing I am carrying out the wishes of my dear husband. 

During his lifetime I wish my son Wallace Campbell GREAVES to collect the rent of 45 Church Road Homerton as he has done hertofore, retaining for himself one pound per week, the balance of twenty two shillings to be paid to his sister Elizabeth Louisa HARDY weekly, for expenses incurred on the property.
