52 Stories Family History

52 Stories #2 with Isabel Hopkins

What goals are you actively working towards right now?

At school this year (year 9) I chose to do my Duke of Edinburgh bronze award, which gives you the opportunity to try new things and help the community. There are 3 months of skills, physical, volunteering, finishing with a 2 day expedition. There is also an additional 3 months in whichever section you would like to do more of (excluding the expedition).

Doing the DofE helps you find new hobbies, make new friends, and it gives you something to work towards (it also looks good on your CV!).

For my skills I chose piano, as I was already doing it. I really enjoy piano and it’s fun to learn new songs. My piano teacher has been encouraging me to learn harder songs to work towards my grade one. I have already completed my 6 months of skill.

For my physical I am doing Parkrun, which is challenging as I hate running. I am usually dragged to the park with my dad, as he convinced me to try it for my DofE. I’m half way through, and I hate it because it’s so cold. This probably wasn’t the best three months to participate.

The Frosty Park where I run on a Saturday Morning at 9am

For my volunteering I haven’t found anything to do yet but I have applied to help at Beavers or Cubs. This seems to be a really popular volunteering choice.

The expedition is going to be at the end of the school year. My school have arranged it and I am going with a group of my friends. The expedition is 2 days long and I don’t know much about it, but I will be sleeping in a tent.

I am glad to do my DofE because it will look good on my CV and I want to get a good job.
