Month: December 2018

Badby Woods, Northamptonshire

Today I was in an exploring kind of mood, so we went to Badby Woods in Northamptonshire. We found the ruins of Dower House on the Fawsley Estate

The Family Business

Earlier this month I finally shut down my company that I had been running for the last 10 years. Read about how my forefathers influenced my career in the construction industry.

The Christmas Present we gave our Children

Over the last 14 years of being parents we have used different strategies of buying Christmas presents. As you can imagine, having 5 children makes Christmas a busy and expensive time of year. We usually follow the rule “something they want, something they need, something to wear, something to read”. This year even that seemed like we were buying our children too much.

Marston Vale Millennium Country Park, Bedfordshire

The Forest of Marston Vale is a 60 square mile environmental regeneration project in between Bedford and Milton Keynes. Some of that area is made up of country park, which has a play area, visitors centre and cafe, wetlands nature reserve, woodlands, and walking routes. The last time we were there was last autumn when we had a day with the boys, and wanted a walk in the forest. Wellies definitely required.

Our Christmas in Pictures 2018

We realised that this might be our last Christmas in our home, so because of that I wanted to take as many pictures as I could to remember how it is. So here are my favourite pictures of Christmas Day and Boxing Day 2018.

Butternut Squash and Red Pepper Soup

I love making soup on a cold wintery day, and this Butternut Squash and Red Pepper soup is one of our favourites. I sometimes make this for big family get togethers and it’s always a winner.

52 Stories

In 2017, FamilySearch launched 52 stories. It is a set of questions to help you write your family story. The idea is that you answer one question a week so at the end of the year you will have a collection of stories all about yourself. Find out how to write your own story.

Highway Rat Trail at Fineshade Wood, Northamptonshire

For us 2018 started with a New Year’s walk at Fineshade Wood. We had a really relaxing Christmas at home (and we are planning the same this year too!) and we always enjoy our family New Year’s walk to blow away the cobwebs and get us back into a more active life.

Family Life – November 2018

Ben and Clare (the blog) is a month old! I haven’t shared as much as I wanted to, but we are just getting warmed up. Here is a what we have been up to during the last month.
